Donate! now to support our hunger relief work during the COVID-19 crisis

Westside Food Bank is an essential service and we are greatly increasing our distribution to our member agencies during the COVID-19 crisis.

The best way to support us during the COVID 19 emergency is to make a financial donation to support our bulk food purchases and essential operations. As the need for emergency food assistance skyrockets, we need your help to continue buying the truckloads of food required to keep our warehouse stocked. Every donated dollar allows us to provide food for four nutritious meals and more people than ever need our help to stay nourished during this crisis.

We are not currently accepting any new volunteers - our volunteer needs are covered with existing volunteers. We are also not accepting food donations from individuals. If our needs change we will post it here on our website.

Please note we are Closed to the Public due to the Safer at Home Order. We are maintaining limited business hours for essential operations only Monday-Thursday, from 7 am to 2 pm.

A note from our Executive Director and Board President:

Dear friends and supporters:

For nearly forty years, Westside Food Bank has served many local families and individuals who have struggled to afford groceries on top of rent, bills, and healthcare costs. In recent months, we have been serving many more people who are facing food insecurity due to job losses, school closures and health risks borne of the coronavirus pandemic.

While WSFB and our member agencies commit never to discriminate based on race, the many factors that contribute to hunger certainly do. Disparities between black Americans and white Americans persist in terms of health, income, opportunity, and safety. Simply put, black Americans are more likely to face hunger than white Americans because they are black in America. Now, we are seeing the effects of another heightened risk factor inherent in America for the black community: the threat of police violence.

We join the community of Angelenos who are expressing profound grief and outrage over the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many others before them. We recognize the despair and anger that emerges from too many years of institutional neglect and violence. Today, we stand with black Americans and join those who are working toward a future without racism.

Westside Food Bank will remain a beacon of hope and relief for all who need food, regardless of race. At the same time, we commit to supporting and truly listening to our team members and external partners from diverse backgrounds, and to all of the families and individuals whom our agencies serve. Westside Food Bank will join in the important work of building systemic change. We hope you will, too. We are confident that together we can create a society that prioritizes safety, healing, fairness, and peace for all.

With hope,

Bruce Rankin, Executive Director

Roger Lustberg, President, Board of Directors

The need for food assistance in our area is up by over 85% since the start of the Great Recession. Please help us put nutritious food on the tables of local families and individuals.  Make your donation here and/or sign up to become a virtual fundraiser and invite your friends and family to support our cause as well. Thanks for giving the gift of nourishment.

Westside Food Bank’s mission is to distribute as much food as possible to local agencies with food assistance programs and to reduce food waste on the Westside of Los Angeles County. As the food bank warehouse for the Westside since 1981, we annually distribute 4.5 million pounds of food to over 70 local social service agencies. We do not distribute food directly to individuals, only to agencies.
